Has your doctor recently prescribed Glyburide to help treat your diabetes? This medication can be of great assistance, when combined with exercise and proper diet, in controlling high blood sugar. Those with type-2 diabetes often benefit from this medication as it helps to stimulate the release of natural insulin within the body. With proper use of this drug, you can keep your blood sugar under control and prevent many of the complications seen with this disease. Complications which may be avoided include nerve problems, blindness and loss of limbs. One thing to consider when using this medication is the Glyburide Side Effects.

There are some Glyburide Side Effects that you must be aware of in order to determine if this medication is right for you. Common side effects include heartburn, nausea, weight gain and stomach fullness. Most will disappear after a short period of time. If they continue though or become worse at any time, it is best to contact your doctor right away. If he or she is not available, call the pharmacist who filled the prescription for advice.

A few patients have experienced serious Glyburide Side Effects. Ones you should watch for include easy bruising or bleeding, yellowing skin or eyes, unusual weakness or tiredness, seizures and/or persistent fever or sore throat. Others have experienced stomach pain, swelling of the hands or feet, sudden weight gain or dark urine. If you notice any of these side effects, contact your doctor right away. Allergic reactions are also possible. If you develop itching or swelling, especially of the face, throat or tongue, see a doctor immediately. The same is true if you become dizzy, develop a rash or have trouble breathing.

Another of the Glyburide Side Effects to be aware of is low blood sugar. This often occurs if you do not watch your caloric intake. Chills, dizziness, blurred vision and rapid heart rate are just a few of the symptoms that you may experience when this is the case. Take a glucose tablet or gel when this occurs or consume a quick source of sugar. Contact your doctor also so you can determine the correct caloric intake to prevent this from happening again. Remember at all times that your doctor has prescribed this medication for a reason. He or she believes it will do more harm than good. If you have questions or concerns, don’t hesitate to discuss them with your doctor or pharmacist. They can help you to determine if this is the best medication for you.
